Officially known as the “City of Firsts,” Kokomo was a pioneer of automobile manufacturing with Elwood Haynes test driving his early internal combustion engine auto in Kokomo on July 4, 1894. The hotel is five miles from downtown Kokomo, which is home to Highland Park, an 80 acre park and the site of the Kokomo Park Band summer concerts. Other area attractions include the Elwood Haynes Museum and the Grissom Air Museum, featuring aviation history from World War II through the Gulf War.
